Jonathan Garbutt, B.A., M.A., [J.D. 2005] (University of Toronto)

Jonathan will graduate in 2005 with his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. His previous education includes a Masters Degree from the Graduate School of International Political Economy at Tsukuba University in Japan.  Jonathan received his Baccalaureate from Université Laval in Quebec City.  He also studied and traveled in Africa for three years before his undergraduate studies.

Previously, Jonathan worked as a Chief Economist and Data Manager at the Canadian Electricity Association and as an Economist and Project Manager with Nakamae International Economic Research in Tokyo, Japan.  While in Japan, Jonathan was a director and the treasurer of the Tokyo Canadian Club.

While at law school, Jonathan has volunteered extensively, including acting as Articles Editor for the Law Review, Treasurer of the Grand Moot and as a shift leader for Enterprise Legal Services (a legal clinic for small businesses).

Professionally, Jonathan's interests lie in the area of tax law.  His personal interests include the art of Argentine Tango, Shorinji Kempo, the Japanese language, yelling at the TV when shows make egregious errors in law, and his two year old fitness programme.  The two-year old in question is his daughter Katie.

Michelle Gordon, B.A., [LL.B. 2005] (University of Ottawa)

Michelle is entering her third year of the LL.B. program at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa, graduating in June 2005. She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction in History and Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto in 2002, where she was actively involved in student government and campus newspapers. 

While at law school, Michelle works as a research assistant with Professor Michael Geist in the areas of technology and privacy law.  An active volunteer, Michelle is the President of the Jewish Law Students Association at the University of Ottawa, and has contributed her time with the Community Legal Clinic, and as a Student Editor with both the University of Ottawa Law Review and the University of Ottawa Law and Technology Journal. 

In the summer of 2004, Michelle worked with both the International Commercial and Litigation practice groups at the Baker & McKenzie Toronto Office, where she participated in various projects in the fields of information technology, advertising/marketing, privacy, dispute resolution, and competition law. 

Michelle loves to travel, and has participated in exchange programs in Italy, Quebec, and Puerto Rico.  She also enjoys tennis, Pilates, and reading, and can speak French and Hebrew. 

Bobby Wang, B.Com, [LL.B. 2005] (Osgoode Hall)

Bobby is currently working towards his LL.B. at Osgoode Hall Law School and his certification as a U.S. Public Accountant. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, specialized in finance, from the University of Toronto in 2000.

Previously, Bobby was the Vice President External of  Osgoode Hall Law School of York University Legal and Literary Society and a York University Student Senator.   He was involved in many student clubs and societies, including Business Law Society and Osgoode International Law Society.

Bobby headed the Pro Bono Students Canada Program and Student Ambassador Program at Osgoode Hall Law School.  He promoted these programs to encourage volunteer work from the current law students and solicit interest from prospective students.

During his 3rd year of law school, Bobby will attend Bucerius Law School of Hamburg, Germany to study International Comparative Business Law, with an emphasis on International Corporate Finance & Corporate Governance, Cross Border Activities and Transactions, the laws of WTO and International Commercial Transactions.

Bobby is interested in practicing business law in the areas of banking finance, mergers & acquisitions, competition, securities, real estate and taxation.

Rosana Zammit, B.A. [LL.B. 2005] (Osgoode Hall)

A native of Toronto, Rosana is entering her 3rd year of the LL.B. program at Osgoode Hall Law School.  She graduated from Queen’s University in 2001 with a B.A.Hons. in History.  As an active participant in student government, Rosana served on countless boards and committees and represented students' interests in the Queen’s University Senate.   She was also a Chair of the Arts and Science Orientation Committee and Assistant Director of Business and Development for the Queen’s University Alma Mater Society.

After graduation, Rosana worked as an Employment and Career Counsellor with St. Stephen’s Employment and Training Centre on behalf of Toronto’s homeless and at-risk youth.   She also took some time off prior to entering law school to travel solo throughout much of Europe.

While a student at Osgoode Hall, Rosana has volunteered with the Community Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP), participated in the Learners Cup Competitive Moot, and been involved with Osgoode’s musical theatre production: Mock Trial. A recipient of the Goodman’s Award for academics, Rosana has also worked as a Workers' Rights Division caseworker at Parkdale Community Legal Services. She has represented clients before Tribunals, in Small Claims Court and in various mediations.

An accomplished musician and performer, Rosana has also participated in numerous amateur and professional theatre, television and film productions.  While singing has always been her first love, she also plays violin, double bass and the glockenspiel.

In the Fall of 2004, Rosana will be attending Warwick University in Coventry, England on exchange. Her interests lie in the areas of labour and employment law and litigation.

Alexandra Wilson, B.A., [M.A., LL.B. 2006] (University of Ottawa)

Hailing from Barrie, Ontario, Alexa is entering her fourth year of the combined M.A. in International Affairs/LL.B. programme at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (M.A.) and the University of Ottawa (LL.B.), where she served on the executive of both the International Law Students Association (2001-2002), and the Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights club (2002-2003). She earned her B.A. in International Relations (with a focus on Economics) at Scripps College in California, receiving an honours distinction for her thesis on trade issues between Canada, Japan and the United States.

Prior to law school, Alexa studied in France, Mexico, the United States, Holland, and in Japan, where she completed the third year of her undergraduate degree. She participated in a student symposium, where she studied international conflict resolution at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Alexa recently returned from a student program in Norway, followed by studies at the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo. Alexa has been at Baker & McKenzie for three summers, in 2002, 2003 and 2004. During these summers, she worked in the corporate/commercial practice group on a variety of projects relating to corporate, trade, securities, e-commerce and privacy law. Outside the office, Alexa enjoys crewing on tall ships, singing in a cappella choirs and hiking.
