Description: On 1 June 2008, the pre-registration phase under the New European Chemicals Regulation REACH (Acronym for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) commenced. The window for registering so-called “phase-in substances” is now open until 1 December 2008. Companies that miss this deadline will no longer be allowed to place their substances on the EU market from that date. This will also affect customers of chemical substance suppliers because if the deadline is missed, the supplier will no longer be able to deliver the required substance. The following article outlines the main features of REACH.
