Description: The right of individuals to preserve the environment has been recognized as a fundamental right in Italy. The Italian Parliament addressed the need for environmental protection for the first time in the 1960s, by passing Law no. 615/1966 regarding air pollution. However, it was not until the late1980s that Italy really started seriously addressing the matter in response to environmental emergencies and EU Commission’s requests.
