Infrastructure Projects

Some examples of transportation, infrastructure and water projects in which we have been involved include:

Transportation and Infrastructure

  • Latin American Refinancing Deal of the Year 2007, Project Finance Magazine
    Baker & McKenzie acted for the Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC), a joint venture company owned in equal proportions by affiliates of Mi-Jack Products, Inc. and Kansas City Southern, in completing an offering of US$100 million of 7% Senior Secured Notes due November 2026
  • Acting for Derech Eretz Highways (Canadian Highways International Corp, Africa-Israel Ltd. and Housing and Construction) in relation to the Cross-Israel Highway Project, with project value US$1.3 billion. This achieved Europe, Middle East, and Africa Infrastructure Deal of the Year 1999 in Project Finance International.
  • Acting in relation to the A2 toll motorway project in Poland, with a project value €812 million. This achieved Europe, Middle East, and Africa Infrastructure Deal of the Year 2000 in Project Finance International. We are also acting for the concessionaire on the €700 million second phase.
  • Acting for the project sponsors in relation to the Bucharest-Ploiesti PPP road project in Romania.
  • Acting in relation to the US$ 1.6 billion acquisition of the Chicago Skyway and three other toll roads in the US. 
  • Acting in relation the development of US$ 2.5 billion Shenzhen Metro and Beijing Metro in China.
  • Acting in relation to the development of Terminals 7, 8 and 9 at Hong Kong's privatized container port. 
  • Acting in relation to the HK$ 5.5 billion master development project in Hong Kong.
  • Acting for Ocean Park Cooperation in relation to the HK$ 5.5 billion master development project in Hong Kong.

Water and Wastewater

  • Acting for several companies in relation to privatizations of water companies in Latin America.
  • Acting in relation to regulatory issues and negotiations concerning its 20,000 kilometer network of water and wastewater in Australia.
  • Acting for Suez Environment on various water projects. 
  • Acting for the lenders on the project financing of the Thames Water US$73 million Da Chang Water Treatment Plant in Shanghai, China.  This was one of the first limited recourse financings in China.
  • Acting in relation to the US$100 million financing for the Chengdu Pilot BOT water project in China.
  • Acting for lenders in relation to the financing for the proposed Zagreb Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Acting for Hanjung (Korea Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd) as contractor in relation to the Al Taweelah A2 independent desalination and power project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This was awarded Europe, Middle East, and Africa Power Deal of the Year 1999 in Project Finance International.
