Infrastructure and transport are core industry sectors for Baker & McKenzie. We continue to advise on significant and frequently ground-breaking projects throughout the world.

We have significant experience in all aspects of public private partnership (PPP) transactions. Recent projects include Build-Operate-Transfer limited recourse financings of major transport infrastructure as well as the conventional procurement of transport infrastructure and services.

Having acted for parties playing all the principal roles in transport projects enable us to understand and predict the requirements and reactions of the other parties to issues which frequently have complex and far reaching consequences through the matrix of project documents.

In the toll road sector, the firm has advised on many high-profile and high-value projects, including the A2 Toll Motorway in Poland, the Hungarian M5, and the Cross-Israel Highway. We are also very active in other transport sectors, notably port development and operation, airports, rail and light rail, bridges, and tunnels.

Water and Wastewater
In the related industry of water and wastewater treatment, we have acted for developers, lenders and governments in both BOT treatment projects and in municipal water/wastewater concessions. Deals have included acting for concessionaires on some of the world's most significant municipal water concessions, including Manila, Jakarta, and Poznan, and a number of ground-breaking BOT projects such as China's Da Chang and Chengdu projects.

We have also advised governments in a number of jurisdictions relating to the privatization of their water and sewerage works. Such multi-faceted work in a broad range of countries throughout the world has given us an in-depth knowledge of the various privatization options available. Baker & McKenzie has established good relations with regulatory authorities, which enables us to advise and assist in an effective manner on regulatory and licensing issues.
