We accept applications from undergraduates, recent graduates, or graduates who've spent time in business or pursuing another career.

We classify non-law students as those who are required to undertake, are currently undertaking or have completed the Common Professional Examination (CPE) also known as the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). You're required to complete this course prior to commencing the Legal Practice Course (LPC).

How to Apply
Whether you're applying for a Training Contract, London Summer Placement or International Summer Placement you will need to complete a separate online application form for each.

Filling Out Your Application

Please fill in your application form online. This should include a covering letter explaining a bit about yourself and the reasons for your application to the Firm. We want to get a feel for your character and achievements, and see what knowledge and enthusiasm you have for our business.

The London Summer Placement interview

Once we have received and acknowledged your application, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview will be conducted by a member of the graduate recruitment team and will last for approximately 45 minutes. Afterwards, you'll have a tour of the office and a coffee with a trainee. They'll answer any questions you may have and give you a personal account of what life's like here.

The International Summer Placement interview
Once we have received and acknowledged your application, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview will be undertaken by two partners who will ask you to give a short presentation outlining why you should be awarded an international placement. Afterwards, you'll have a tour of the office and a coffee with a trainee. They'll answer any questions you may have and give you a personal account of what life's like here. The whole process will take approximately an hour and a half.

The Training Contract interview
Once we have received and acknowledged your application, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview will include a short discussion based on the facts of a typical client problem (which you will be given to read in advance). This is undertaken by two partners. Afterwards, you'll have a tour of the office and a coffee with a trainee. They'll answer any questions you may have and give you a personal account of what life's like here. You'll spend about two hours at our offices in total.

If you are invited for an interview, don't be nervous. The Firm was obviously impressed by your application, and the interviewers want you to be the right person. So enjoy the experience and be confident!

Here are some other helpful tips:

  • Smile, shake hands firmly and maintain eye contact.
  • Think about why a question is being asked and answer accordingly. No matter how tricky the question seems, the interviewer is not trying to trip you up!
  • There is not always a right or wrong answer; how you answer is what is important.
  • Offer enthusiastic replies.
  • Be honest. Be yourself.
  • Make your answers brief but thorough.
  • Use silence to add emphasis to what you've already said or to gather your thoughts.
  • If you get lost in answering a question, don't panic. Ask if you can start again.
  • Stick to asking relevant, sensible questions. Now isn't necessarily the time to ask about salary or car parking!
  • If you've covered all your questions, try asking the interviewer something personal to them, e.g. "Why do you enjoy working here?"
  • Never ask how you've done. An interviewer may feel that it's inappropriate to discuss this at the time.
  • If it helps, have your questions written down (but not on your hand, or a scruffy piece of paper!).
  • Don't ask obvious questions - it'll show up your poor research.
  • Remember - the interview is a two-way process. You should be assessing the Firm as much as they are assessing you.
