Managing Partner: John A. Connors In Kazakhstan and the other CIS countries, we operate through Baker & McKenzie – CIS, Limited. In Almaty we represent a wide range of corporations and financial institutions investing and operating in Central Asia - in the manufacturing, product sales and distribution, technology, natural resources, infrastructure, energy and finance sectors, among others. Our Almaty office was established in 1995 and has grown into a multinational, 40-person operation. Through the years, we have advised extensively on high-end cross-border financings, M&A transactions and construction projects. In addition, our staff includes a licensed patent & trade mark attorney. We have formed practice area groupings linked with CIS and global counterparts to ensure that front line technical expertise is developed, maintained and enhanced in legal areas of interest and need for our clients.
Our strong Central Asian complement can provide our clients with a deep understanding of the local culture and business environment. From our Almaty hub, we deliver a full range of legal services for clients doing business in the 5 Central Asian Republics of the former Soviet Union. In addition, we maintain a satellite “project” office with two lawyers and one paralegal in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan (established in 1996).
